Once the school year ends our society pretty much say "Adios" to defined schedules and enjoys freedom in the flexibility for each day to look a little different.
The same happens in the church, where there is no longer weekly programming to nurture children through adults in their faith formation. Summer programming simply looks different.
Medical News Today says that individuals can break habits in as few as 21 days.
This create an issue when it comes to maintaining faith habits.
In considering summer societal summer patterns in combination with congregational changes, I'm excited to offer Popsicle Praise for you to maintain faith engagement no matter where your summer days take you/your family.
Throughout summer you will read a Scripture, reflect on its connection to your day, and pray over it. You can do this by yourself or with others AND you can do it in your home or while at the lake, waiting between games on the field, etc. This keeps God's Word at the center of each day in a fun, inviting, and flexible way. There are over 30 selected Scriptures and random popsicle stick selection provides sweet surprise for how you'll be seeing God sighting and nearness each day.
How might you do this activity?
If you are a church leader, offer this as a Cross+Gen activity. You can have all the items needed for your people and they will enjoy preparing their jar with one another. Not only does it make for a unique and fun summer activity, but doing it shows your investment in summer faith formation when your programming is less regular.
If you are an individual or adult leader in a home, make it there! That is what I first did to give my children regular faith engagement. It's super easy and can be done solo or with a family group. Grandparents, you could have these ready for when the grandkids visit. The opportunities are endless and the meaning eternal.
Enjoy!
xx Melissa
