Melissa Nesdahl Advent Fair/Christmas Event Plan

Seeing ministry leaders ordering my "Perfect Peace" easy-to-do Christmas Program this month makes Christmas in July real. I know church leaders are transitioning to education year preparations and that means meaningful seasonal planning.

If you've never done an Advent Fair/Christmas Event I 100% recommend. They are a blast, bring all generations together, develop community, and create a spirit of joy.

When doing one of these events the crafts deeply matter. It is important that they are easy-to-do and don't consume too much time. You want your participants to be able to get all the crafts completed and a snack eaten within the event window, which I recommend to be 2-3 hours. And, you want crafts that are equally as enjoyable for a 5-year-old as they are for an 80-year-old.

I've always done my event on a Wednesday night in place of children's/youth programming so that it is a natural time families plan to be at church. Students younger than 6th grade required at least one caring adult or older sibling to assist them. This creates for better station success.

The imagining of this type of event can be stressful, and that's why I've taken care of it for you. I just released my Advent Fair/Christmas Event Plan. It has three planned crafts and fun peanut-safe/gluten free snack. The 12 page PDF provides station instructions for each craft and the snack, event station signs, point-of-entry signs, and questions for you to consider to make it the best event possible. All you have to do is think through the questions, get your volunteers, and order the supplies for the number of crafts you anticipate people making.

If you have people in your congregation that are good at making lefse or another seasonal delicacy, that can be really fun to have taking place live near the snack station. Congregations could also choose to have a meal, as well.

If you've never done one of these, it's time to give it a try. They are SO. MUCH. FUN. and hold treasured memories for all who attend. Few events can bring your whole congregation together like that in the spirit of Christmas.

ENJOY!

xx Melissa Nesdahl
