Yesterday was National Face Your Fears Day. October 8 is dedicated to inspiring individuals not to let fear hold them back.
But how do we do this?
Even when we know Jesus and can attest to the Lord's constant presence (Isaiah 41:10) it is easy to get caught in comfort zones.
In her book "Lazarus Awakening," Joanna Weaver asserts that many of us live in the "midchamber" of life.
“Suspended halfway between death and life, we’ve accepted the Lord as our Savior, but we have yet to step out into the fullness of life Christ came to give. Instead, we’re holed up in the dark, held captive by our hearts, our hang-ups, and our habits.” (Weaver)
This powerful imagery translates to a life of missed opportunity.
Fear is a real emotion and having safe people to process fears with is important. There is no way to break through that holed up space without acknowledging what has stronghold on our heart. In the process, we discover some of these fears to be real and validated and they inspire action accordingly. Other fears, however, are solely based on imagined unknowns. There is no truth to them. These are the unhelpful fears that limit us from living our best life.
So, if fear didn't hold you back,
~ What is one thing you'd love to do but have yet to pursue?
~ Flesh out this fear. Is it led by a known or an unknown?
~ It is important to be wise in our choices. How have you felt God nudging you in the situation?
~ How might your life be different if you took a risk?
~ And, how does God's guidance + Isaiah 41:10 fit in the midst of this fear exploration?
~ Pray over your situation.
~ Process these feelings with someone you trust.
God loves you and has good plans for you. Be brave in exploring your fears.
xx Melissa
